In 1973, while stationed in Germany on military deployment, Fred Ress, the founder and owner of Ress Motor Works was introduced to BMW and purchased his very first BMW, a 1968 4-door 2000 in 1973. With only minutes behind the wheel, he realized it was the finest automobile he had ever driven.
Following his military service and graduation from the University of Cincinnati, he married the true love of his life, Leisa Upchurch. Shortly after they were relocated to Indianapolis. Fred then worked at two different automotive repair garages, but had issues with the integrity of their operations, and therefore began Ress Motor Works in 1982. Realizing that if he was going to earn a living as an auto mechanic, he would have to specialize on the car he loved – it would have to be BMW.
Over the years Fred has seen a great number of changes in the auto repair maintenance business, both in the product technology and the market; however, he has never lost direction to his commitment to providing the best service and value for his customers.
His son, Evan, grew up hearing about the business and came to appreciate BMW as much as his father does. He apprenticed at RMW while also completing his automotive training at Ivy Tech, and began working as a technician in 2010; in Spring of 2019 Evan began managing the business. Evan and the entire team of service advisors and technicians are equally committed to delivering excellent quality workmanship. They rely on that personal relationship with and service to their customers to sustain and grow their business.
Ress Motor Works does not advertise, and attributes their success to the loyalty of their customers. They are proud of the fact that a great many of their clients have been with them since the beginning of the business over 30 years ago, and are grateful for their frequent referrals of their friends and relatives to Ress Motor Works.
